NCL TESTING

Neuronal Canine Ceroid Lipofuscinosis Basics

The neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinoses (NCLs) are a class of inherited neurological disorders that have been diagnosed in dogs, humans, cats, sheep, goats, cynomolgus monkeys, cattle, horses, and lovebirds. Among dogs, NCL has been reported in many breeds, including English Setters, Tibetan Terriers, American Bulldogs, Dachshunds, Polish Lowland Sheepdogs, Border Collies, Dalmatians, Miniature Schnauzers, Australian Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs, Golden Retrievers, and other breeds. NCL is almost always inherited as an autosomal recessive trait.  It is a neurological disease that will slowly and painfully kill your dog.  We believe in rigorous DNA testing and responsible breeding to help eradicate this in our breed. No matter who you choose to buy an AB from, always double check the NCL testing and breeding policies. All of our breeding stock is NCL clear.

OFA/PENNHip TESTING

OFA or PENNHip testing is also an important part of breeding and picking out your dog.  This helps determine if your dog has or may be genetically pre-dispositioned to DJD (Hip Dysplasia) which could eventually affect their quality of life.  All of our breeding stock is either OFA or PENNHip certified to be clear of DJD.
